A 14-year-old boy, who was admitted for a fractured elbow in a private hospital in Kollam, Kerala, is now battling for life after "something went wrong" while administering anesthesia during surgery. The parents working as daily wage labourers had no idea how they will pay for their son’s treatment. Having sustained a fracture to his left elbow after falling from a bicycle, the boy was taken to a hospital on April 26. But as his injury was termed a ‘severe fracture’, doctors recommended immediate surgery.
The family were given no updates by doctors or hospital staff initially. Subsequently after about five hours of the surgery, the doctor who came out of the OT said, “The boy was critical and has been shifted to the ICU on ventilator”.
