Synopsis Brain metastases are a frequent complication in patients with melanoma. For all melanoma patients, melanoma brain metastases (MBM) has been associated with the most unfavorable prognosis. The median overall survival (mOS) for patients with MBM was only 6 months prior to the introduction of new systemic therapies. Very few clinical trials evaluated the impact of immunotherapy (IT) and targeted therapy (TT) when used alone or in combination with surgery and radiotherapy in this population. The present study evaluates the influence of new therapies on subsequent patients diagnosed with MBM, and who are treated with a multimodal approach.
This week’s “ MED FACT ” discusses the randomized clinical trial from The Spine Journal, “ Immunotherapy plus surgery/radiosurgery is associated with favorable survival in patients with melanoma brain metastasis ”. Authors : Amaral. T.; et. al. …
