In the ASPEN trial (NCT04594369), brensocatib 10 mg and 25 mg reduced pulmonary exacerbations over 52 weeks compared with placebo in patients with bronchiectasis, with the 25 mg dose also improving lung function decline and patient-reported symptoms. However, data specific to Japanese patients remain limited. To address this, a subgroup analysis evaluated the efficacy and safety of brensocatib in 87 Japanese patients.
The study found that brensocatib 10 mg and 25 mg significantly reduced the annualized exacerbation rate compared with placebo (rate ratio 0.37 and 0.32), prolonged time to first exacerbation, and increased the likelihood of remaining exacerbation-free.
