Eales disease is also known as perivascular retinitis and was first described by Henry Eales. It is characterised by recurrent vitreous haemorrhages occurring in a young healthy individual.
It is very common in the Asian subcontinent. The exact cause of the disease is unknown however some pathological factors are the risk factors and they are as follows: Retinal vessels get sensitised to the toxins of acid-fast bacilli Reduced oxygen carrying capacity of blood Excretion of 17 ketosteroids is reduced Hemostatic disturbances Parasitic infestations Thromoangiitis obliterans Peripheral vascular disease Central Eales- a venous occlusion but retinal vessels are also involved Focal sepsis Bechet’s disease Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) SC retinopathy complications Neovascular glaucoma Retinal detachment Diagnosis: By ophthalmoscopy and fluorescein fundus angiography ( FFA ) which may reveal…
