Bronchiolitis of the infant refers to a common illness of the respiratory tract, caused by an infection of the bronchioles that leads to swelling and breathing difficulty. It is evident that maternal asthma during pregnancy enhanced the chances of infant bronchiolitis. However, there is less evidence for the role of infant respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) bronchiolitis which increases the risk of succeeding otitis media, pneumonia, and antibiotic use.
