Physical exercise is well known to help manage glucose levels in type 2 diabetes patients. However, the impact of a single session of aerobic exercises on glucose levels in healthy young adults is scarcely studied. A new study has determined this effect in 34 individuals aged 20 to 35 with normal weight or marginally overweight and without diabetes. The study found that a single bout of 30-minute aerobic exercise can significantly reduce glucose levels at baseline and one hour after glucose load.

Notably, a single bout of 30-minute aerobic exercise also significantly lowered insulin levels one hour after glucose load in the participants. These findings suggest that even a single bout of 30-minute aerobic exercise can increase insulin sensitivity and improve the body’s insulin secretion pattern.
