Although the link between pain and sleep problems is well established, the specific impact of back pain, a leading cause of disability, on sleep has been relatively understudied. To address this gap, researchers examined the association between back pain and sleep problems in 1,055 men aged 65 years and older. The study found that the presence of any back pain, including frequent, severe, or activity-limiting back pain, was associated with a 12%β25% higher risk of sleep problems six years later. Back pain was also linked to sleep dissatisfaction and disrupted sleep timing, characterized by going to sleep too early or too late.
These findings indicate that back pain has a sustained, direct effect on sleep health in older men, underscoring the importance of targeted interventions to manage back pain in this population. ##Reference## Lee S, Muhammad T, Roseen EJ, et al. Back pain precedesβ¦
