According to research published in the journal PLOS ONE, infections in healthcare workers can serve as an accurate sample representing the general population. Such data could therefore be used to aid the estimation of the severity of virus outbreaks. The study involved analysis of infection data from healthcare workers over different countries, including Ireland, Germany, the United Kingdom, South Korea, and Iceland. The scientists also studied the progression of the first wave of COVID-19 in Ireland with the help of the daily infection numbers reported.
