The finance ministry has decided to increase the percentage allocation of GDP on health from 1.3% to 2.5% by 2025. This raised expenditure will aim to allocate more suitable resources to rural areas. Considering the burden on the healthcare sector put by the COVID-19 pandemic, the decision has been taken to strengthen the hospital and lab infrastructures in the tertiary care settings . The provisions include the creation of dedicated infectious diseases hospital units and government-run diagnostic labs in all districts .
Additionally, health and wellness centers will also be established in villages. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) will also help by building a national institutional platform to boost research innovation in the medical field.
