Blood loss post revision hip arthroplasties (RHA) can be common and severe. To decrease blood loss, transfusion methods and intraoperative blood savers can be used. Application of drainage in such cases prevents hematoma, which may cause a drop in hemoglobin. This article focuses on the impact of suction drainage on blood loss, hemoglobin drop, size of the hematoma, and incidence of infection post-RHA.
Total hip arthroplasties (THA) show no benefit of suction drainage post-surgery. Revision hip arthroplasties (RHA), on the other hand, lack a sufficient study backup to evaluate the application of drainage in RHA. RHA includes some of the most difficult cases including total prosthesis reimplantation in addition to mobile components exchange and partial reimplantation of a cup or stem. A high complication rate that involves perioperative blood loss is usually observed in RHA owing toβ¦
