The incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) in the pediatric age group (≤20 years) is rare compared to that in adults. CRC can be fatal. Early diagnosis and improved management have resulted in decreased mortality since the 1980s. In younger patients, routine colonoscopy is not recommended. Therefore, it results in advanced stages of CRC at presentation.
Further, the stage of CRC, such as the histological type of cancer, is one of the most important factors determining the mortality in such patients.
