Synopsis Actinic keratosis is a common premalignant skin disease in the white population, caused due to the exposure to the ultraviolet radiation. Currently, the choice of treatment often depends on the preferences of patients and their treating physicians. Evidence from randomized trials with a direct comparison between treatments and long-term follow-up is scarce. Thus, the trial was the first, randomized, double-blind, phase 4 study that reviewed the successful use of (A) 5% fluorouracil, (B) 5% imiquimod, (C) 5% methyl aminolevulinate photodynamic therapy (MAL-PDT) and (D) 0.015% ingenol mebutate in the treatment of actinic keratosis. This week's  'MED FACT'  discusses a clinical trial from The Lancet, “Randomized Trial of Four Treatment Approaches for Actinic Keratosis”, 2019.
