Introduction of laparoscopic surgery has revolutionized the medical system. Despite the rapid improvement in surgical skill and technical equipment, preventable injuries and complication rates show a continuous pattern.
Overall reported complication rates range from 0.2% and 10.3% (major laparoscopic procedures with 0.6% to 18% rate of complications and minor procedures with 0.06% to 7.0%). Transient nerve injuries , one of the commonly occurring complications, may occur due to incorrect positioning and may affect common peroneal nerve, brachial plexus, and also the saphenous nerve.
