A recent study from the High Altitude Pulmonary and Pathology Institute (IPPA), Bolivia, has claimed a new hypothesis that in COVID-19, it’s not the cytokine storm that causes lung damage but pneumolysis. Initially, the pathology of COVID-19 was interpreted as a Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), resulting in a high mortality rate with economic loss worldwide. Lung computerized tomography (CT) scan impelled countries all over the world to buy sophisticated ventilators. However, as per the reports, 88% of people on ventilators lost their lives.
It was then suggested that COVID-19 could be similar to High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE), and new observations are now being carried out to clarify the same.
