Cow’s milk protein allergy is among the most prevalent allergies during infancy and early childhood when milk forms the largest proportion of an individual’s food intake. The current article describes the guidelines stated by the British Society for Allergy & Clinical Immunology (BSACI) on the management of cow milk allergy. Cow’s milk allergy is described as a reproducible immunological adverse reaction induced by cow’s milk protein. It can be classified into IgE-mediated immediate-onset and non-IgE-mediated delayed-onset based on the timing of symptoms and organ involvement.
It has a prevalence of 1.8% and 7.5% in infants during the first year of life. Onset is rare after 12 months.
