EDE is the more prevalent type of DED, characterized predominantly by MGD, a change or reduction of tear fluid lipids resulting in disruption of tear fluid's integrity and quality. 1 4 out of 5 dry eye patients have some form of evaporative (lipid-deficient) dry eye 3 ; however, despite gaining popularity, there is no consensus/recommendation available for managing EDE.
4 Early diagnosis and treatment of EDE may prevent chronic inflammation, permanent damage to the ocular surface, and treatment-refractory disease. 4
