Dapagliflozin promotes weight loss in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients. However, the effect is reduced due to the metabolic adaptation of compensatory hyperphagia, which can be overcome by calorie restriction. To explore this further, researchers have compared the effects of combining dapagliflozin and calorie restriction with calorie restriction alone in 328 T2D patients aged 20–70 years with a BMI > 25.

The study found that combining dapagliflozin and calorie restriction led to diabetes remission in 44% of patients, compared to 28% in the calorie restriction alone group. The combination also significantly reduced body weight, insulin resistance, blood pressure, body fat, and metabolic risk factors compared to the placebo group.
