In a disturbing development, at least 14 children in Madhya Pradesh have died following suspected kidney failure linked to a toxic cough syrup β Coldrif, manufactured by Sresan Pharmaceuticals, Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu. The syrup was found to contain diethylene glycol (DEG) at levels far exceeding permissible limits. DEG is a dangerous solvent known to cause acute renal toxicity and death.
