Pulmonary embolism is blockage of vessels in the lungs due to the formation of thrombus or migration of already formed thrombus into lung vessels. The new study suggests that the time between admission and anticoagulant therapy is very critical in high-risk acute pulmonary embolism. Intensive care units (ICUs) often receive patients with acute pulmonary embolism (PE). The blockage of pulmonary arteries due to the formation and migration of thrombus can cause acute PE. PE is considered as a life-threatening condition.
It warrants immediate and accurate treatment, especially when the patients are admitted in the ICU.
