A neglected wrist injury in a young adult nearly ended in permanent loss of mobility before surgeons at Max Super Specialty Hospital in Delhi performed an uncommon reconstructive procedure that has been documented in fewer than 100 cases globally. The patient had sustained a scaphoid fracture years earlier but did not seek timely treatment. Over time, repeated wrist strain, including regular gym activity, worsened the injury.

The scaphoid eventually failed to unite, lost vascularity, and progressed to avascular necrosis with fragmentation, creating a complex reconstructive challenge by the time the patient presented for care.
