The two major goals of any successful endodontic treatment include elimination of infection and prevention of re-infection . The endodontic instruments used for cleaning and shaping the root canal may remove more amount of infected dentin at the canal orifice to create space for introducing the intracanal medicaments and irrigants into the canal. However, excessive removal of dentin using nickel titanium (NiTi) instruments may have detrimental effects in the form of vertical root fractures and dentinal cracks . To overcome the disadvantages of NiTi rotary instruments, reciprocating endodontic instruments were introduced.
