Diabetic retinopathy develops in a large proportion of patients and is a leading cause of blindness worldwide. Remarkable advances in the diagnosis and treatment of diabetic retinopathy have been made but several important management questions and treatment deficiencies remain unanswered. This article briefly describes the recent advances and challenges regarding diabetic retinopathy.
