The chances of having false-positive results in annual mammogram range from 7-12% and mainly, in younger women. If performed after every 10 years, then this can be up to 50-60%. A recent study has shown that an MRI scan done every 6 months is more accurate in diagnosing breast cancer as compared to mammography.
The study was done in volunteers who were genetically predisposed to the disease and had a lifetime breast cancer risk greater than 20 percent. In your experience, what is better – MRI or mammography, especially in younger population?
