Acute otitis media is the bacterial or viral infection of the middle ear, which results in localized swelling and fluid build-up. Diagnosis is carried out by analyzing the fluid build-up behind the eardrum using a lighted instrument called Otoscope. Also, movement of the eardrum can be observed by gently puffing air into the ear. Other diagnostic tests are performed if additional confirmational test is required or if the patients have not responded to the otoscope testing.
