Do you know that alcoholic liver disease remains a major cause of liver-related mortality worldwide? Most serious form includes alcoholic hepatitis, characterized by persistent inflammation of the liver, and cirrhosis, with progressive scarring of liver tissue. Most of the alcoholics may have a combination of alcoholic hepatitis and cirrhosis have biochemical features. Despite significant advances in the understanding of the pathogenesis of alcohol-related liver injury, a distinct differentiation between alcoholic hepatitis and alcoholic cirrhosis is a must.
