In a troubling turn to the recent cough syrup tragedy in Madhya Pradesh, police reports submitted to the court indicate that the arrested pediatrician allegedly admitted to receiving a 10% commission for prescribing the contaminated syrup involved in the deaths of 23 children. Investigators claim the syrup, manufactured by a Tamil Nadu-based company, contained dangerously high levels of diethylene glycol—far exceeding safety limits. According to officials, the physician continued prescribing the formulation even though national guidelines restrict fixed-dose combination (FDC) cough syrups for children under four years of age.
