A senior gastroenterologist at a renowned private hospital in New Delhi has successfully removed a live cockroach from the small intestine of a 23-year-old man. The patient was admitted to the hospital with complaints of abdominal pain and difficulty digesting food for two to three days. The gastroenterologist examined his upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract using an upper GI endoscope to identify the cause of his pain and indigestion. Surprisingly, the doctor discovered a live cockroach in the patient’s small intestine.
The doctor swiftly removed the cockroach using the air suction channel of the endoscope. After the procedure, the doctor suggested that the patient may have accidentally swallowed the cockroach while eating, or it might have entered his mouth while sleeping.
