Tamil Nadu medical council has cancelled the postgraduate degrees of around 48 doctors in the state, as the council found that the degrees were unrecognized by the apex medical body i.e. MCI. The declaration passed will Barr the doctors from being teaching faculty or specialists in emergency departments across the country, and their PG degrees will be removed from their licenses. The state medical council president, Dr. K Senthil stated that the doctors who have registered themselves as PGs using unrecognized degrees have been issued a warning for misleading the council.

He added that “ Some doctors had sought time to appear before the council. We decided it was not required because their degrees aren’t recognized and their appearance will make no difference.
