Postoperative sleep disturbances and pain can create a cycle that delays recovery, with women being particularly vulnerable due to hormonal fluctuations and unique pain modulation mechanisms. Dexmedetomidine (DEX) has shown potential in improving sleep quality and providing analgesia. To address this, a study evaluated the effectiveness of DEX in optimizing postoperative pain management and sleep in 130 gynecological patients.
The study found that adding dexmedetomidine (DEX) significantly reduced postoperative sleep disturbances and improved pain control in gynecological patients compared with standard treatment. The incidence of sleep disturbance based on the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was 21.5% in the DEX group versus 47.7% in the control group, with better PSQI scores on the first and second postoperative nights. Pain scores within 48 hours were also significantly lowerβ¦
