The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has confirmed 11 new Ebola cases, bringing the total to 57 as of September 21. This includes 10 probable cases, with 35 deaths reported in Kasai Province. The outbreak, declared earlier this month, marks the country’s first in three years. In response, the World Health Organization (WHO) began vaccinating frontline health workers and patient contacts last week. From the national stockpile of 2,000 doses, 400 have been delivered to Bulape, the outbreak’s epicenter.
Alongside vaccination, the WHO has sent more than 15 tonnes of medical supplies, deployed experts, and established a treatment center.
