COVID-19 infection in obese patients can pose grave health risks, but in a rare case, doctors in Dubai have successfully treated a morbidly obese 34-year-old man weighing 150 kg after testing COVID-positive twice. Upon testing positive for the first time, the patient was given antipyretic medication at home. After five days, he started experiencing an acceleration of symptoms, including shortness of breath, raging fever, and cough. Upon presentation to the critical care unit, the patient had a fever of 41Β°C with an oxygen saturation of 52% and a pulse rate of 154 beats per minute.
His BMI was 52. Further investigations revealed septic shock with acute renal failure, multiorgan dysfunction, and extensive bilateral pneumonia.
