Medical management of the patients after angioplasty or bypass surgery is critical. In this regard, Optimal Medical Therapy (OMT), which is a complementary therapy to revascularization with either Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) or Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) is of high importance. Several clinical studies indicated the benefits and positive outcomes of OMT and also association of underuse of OMT with poor outcomes in patients. Results from the SYNTAX trial indicated that prescription of OMT (combination of at least one antiplatelet drug, statin, beta-blocker and ACE inhibitor) was only 41% at the time of discharge after revascularization.
The trial also found benefits of OMT in a significant reduction of mortality. Several other clinical trials also indicated the benefits of ACE inhibitors, DAPT therapy, Statins etc. in the management of post PCI patients.…
