Exercise has been shown to improve cancer outcomes in several preclinical and observational studies. To obtain definitive evidence, a study has investigated the effect of a 3-year structured exercise program in 889 patients with resected colon cancer who had undergone adjuvant chemotherapy. At a median follow-up of 7.9 years, the study found that 80.3% of colon cancer patients in the exercise group achieved 5-year disease-free survival, compared to 73.9% in the health-education group. Additionally, 90.3% of patients in the exercise group achieved 8-year overall survival, compared to 83.2% in the health education group.
