Family Medicine, The Concept And Need In India The background : We had family doctors once, till some 40 years ago, all doctors in our country, though not by plan or policy, were working as family doctors. The objectives of MBBS training also, as stated by the MCI, were meant for producing family doctors (see objectives of MBBS below). All the doctors, especially those in government service, were hard -working, dedicated, socially oriented, and were well accepted by the people.
