There is a significant unmet requirement of therapies that can reduce disease progression and improve outcomes in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. The USFDA has approved dapagliflozin to treat CKD as it reduces the risk for kidney failure, cardiovascular death, and hospitalization for heart failure in adults with CKD. Dapagliflozin was initially approved in 2014 to improve glycemic control in diabetic patients. It has recently received approval by the USFDA to treat CKD patients based on the results of the DAPA-HF (Dapagliflozin in Patients with Heart Failure) trial.
