According to WHO report, over 100,000 Indians die due to hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection every year. Thus, India accounts for a significant share of global HCV infections and there is an urgent need for the effective management of this chronic liver condition. Recently, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the First, Once-daily Single-Tablet HCV regimen as salvage therapy for adults with chronic HCV genotypes 1 to 6, without cirrhosis or with mild cirrhosis.

The US FDA approved this new fixed drug combination (FDC), containing two previously approved drugs- the nucleotide analog nonstructural protein (NS)5B polymerase inhibitor Sofosbuvir (400 mg) and the HCV NS5A inhibitor Velpatasvir (100 mg) – and a newly approved pan-genotypic HCV NS3/4A protease inhibitor Voxilaprevir (100 mg).
