Because of numerous causes, the detailed history taking and physical exam are required for diagnosis of fever of unknown origin (FUO). This article outlines the key features of medical history and physical findings for efficient diagnosis based on the retrospective studies of 42 patients with classic FUO. Fever of unknown origin (FUO) can be caused by many infections, non-infections, inflammatory diseases (NIID), malignancies , and other conditions.
Thus, a detailed history taking and physical exam, lab test, and imaging studies are required for diagnosis of FUO.
