Acute gastroenteritis , a frequent cause of vomiting in children, is often treated in emergency departments with ondansetron to lessen symptoms and support recovery; however, its continued use after discharge lacks robust evidence. To address this gap, a study investigated the efficacy of multidose ondansetron prescribed following emergency department management of gastroenteritis -associated vomiting in 1,030 pediatric patients. The study found that children receiving ondansetron had a 50% lower risk of developing moderate-to-severe gastroenteritis compared to those given placebo (adjusted odds ratio 0.50).
