Bacterial infections are the important contributor that result into poor pregnancy outcomes. They can affect pregnant women in all phases of pregnancy right from implantation of the fertilized ovum, until the time of delivery and peripartum period. As many women with these bacterial infections remain asymptomatic, thus there is a need for clinical awareness and adequate screening. The current article discusses one such bacterial infection, Group B Streptococcus (GBS), which is an important cause of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality in many parts of the world.
