What began as gradual abdominal swelling over 18 months turned into one of the more demanding surgical challenges recently handled at NRS Medical College in Kolkata. A 40-year-old woman from Taltala underwent a six-hour operation after surgeons removed a massive abdominal tumor later identified as myxoid liposarcoma. The lesion measured 36.5 × 30.7 × 16.3 cm and had displaced bowel loops while exerting pressure on the aorta, kidneys, and pancreas.
By early 2026, the patient had progressed from intermittent discomfort to severe respiratory distress with a rigid, distended abdomen, making intervention unavoidable.
