India has recently boosted its COVID-19 testing capacity by giving 43 private labs a green signal to commence testing for the disease. Although the motive of the move was to ease the load on government-run labs, the situation has so far panned to be otherwise. Since last week, 43 private labs have started COVID-19 testing. These labs are also offering home collection services and promising one-day results.

But delays and fear of false-positive results from private labs have increased the burden on government labs as samples are now being double-checked. Public hospitals in Mumbai are loaded with the additional responsibility of double-checking samples from private labs.
