In a judgement passed by a sessions court in Gujarat recently, an MP has been awarded a 3-year jail sentence and a penalty of Rs. 35,000 for allegedly assaulting a doctor in 2013. As a consequence of his conviction, this MP has been disqualified from his duties for his behaviour. This special court at Amreli in Gujarat found the MP guilty of abusing a doctor of a civil hospital in January 2013. The case was previously filed under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the IPC from which the MP was acquitted earlier.

But he was again booked under the law for ‘ voluntarily causing hurt for to deter a public servant doing his duty ’ and ‘ using force or violence through unlawful assembly ’ for which he was found guilty.
