In a recent move, the Bombay high court on stayed governments notification permitting doctors having a degree of LCEH (licentiate of the court of examiners in homoeopathy) to practice allopathy This move was an outcome of the IMA’s petition which stated that the Indian Medical Council Act 1956 says that allopathic medicine course can only be approved by Indian Medical Council and because since LCEH is not approved, allopathy cannot be practised by homoeopaths. On the other hand, LCEH degree was recognized by Central Council of Homeopathy in 1951 and abolished by it in 1982. But the LCEH Association contended that as homoeopaths do an integrated course with one subject as general medicine, they are entitled to practice allopathy.

What is your opinion about Bombay HC’s this move? Considering the shortage of doctors in the rural areas, should homoeopaths be allowed to practice allopathy?
