Patients admitted to cardiac intensive care units (CICUs) frequently undergo considerable physiological stress, which can adversely affect their recovery and overall outcomes. Music therapy has emerged as a potential method to enhance patient comfort and well-being. To investigate this further, researchers presented a study at the American College of Cardiology Latin America 2025 conference evaluating the positive effects of music therapy in 24 adult CICU patients (mean age: 61.9 years).
In the study, 13 patients received 45-minute music therapy sessions for five consecutive days, while the rest received standard care. Those who underwent music therapy showed notable reductions in heart rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and asynchronies compared with the control group.
