Recent studies suggest that diets rich in vegetables, fruits, and whole grains may help reduce systemic inflammation in individuals with chronic inflammatory conditions, and that dietary interventions may also alleviate symptoms of endometriosis. However, the relationship between adherence to the Mediterranean diet and the Healthy Diet Indicator (HDI) with the incidence of endometriosis has not been well established. To address this, an Iranian study examined 115 women diagnosed with endometriosis and 230 healthy controls.

The study found that women who adhered more closely to the Mediterranean diet had a 94% lower likelihood of developing endometriosis (OR: 0.06). Likewise, women with higher HDI scores had a 95% lower likelihood of endometriosis (OR: 0.05).
