New Delhi-based Insurance has sent notice to hospitals asking them to prescribe medicines only with their generic names to reimburse claims. The company sought that hospitals comply with “immediate” effect, citing the Medical Council of India guidelines that states every physician should prescribe drugs with their generic names legibly, preferably in capital letters. In April this year, Prime Minister announced the government would bring in a new law to force doctors to prescribe medicines by their generic names in a public speech.
