The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has issued new guidelines for managing type 2 diabetes (T2DM) which will further act as a rule book for physicians in the country. The recommendations mainly focus on epidemiology, diagnostic criteria, pharmacological intervention, treatment goals and complications of the T2DM. T2DM is a metabolic syndrome characterized by predominant insulin resistance with varying degrees of insulin secretory defect.
The main aim of the management of T2DM includes glycemic control and prevention of acute, microvascular and macrovascular complications.
