A 17-year-old high school American football player presented with repeated muscle cramps during games. He had a history of cystic fibrosis (CF) and seizures. Earlier CF clinic examination Muscle cramps occur during the second half of games and exercises. Muscle cramps occur predominantly in the lower extremities and rarely in the upper extremities and abdomen. Muscle cramps persist from 30 minutes to 3 hours.
Serum sodium – 121 mmol/L A nutritionist suggested the patient to consume salt tabs on the days of the game and drink 2 to 3 bottles of sports drink and up to two bottles of pediatric electrolyte solution during the games.
