With amidst after the Delhi HC move against cognizance of an Indian-origin doctor who was barred from practicing by a US court but is now treating patients in Delhi, IMA wants MCI to seek ‘good standing certificate’ from NRI doctors who want to work in India. In order to ensure that the practitioner has a good track record and there is nothing against him/her, especially with reference to ethical breach, a letter to MCI, IMA states that, “This will serve a similar purpose to the certificate issued by the MCI for Indian doctors seeking registration to practice medicine in foreign countries”. IMA has written to the MCI seeking a defined policy on doctors who have been barred from practicing medicine in their country but are now working in India.

Before the doctors are registered or re-registered in India, the doctors will have to furnish a good standing certificate. Source: The Hindu
