Metabolic bariatric surgery (MBS) has been linked to improvements in psoriasis severity, but evidence-based clinical guidance remains limited. To address this gap, a study evaluated psoriasis outcomes following MBS and explored factors influencing clinical response, involving 447 patients. The study found that metabolic bariatric surgery resulted in a pooled BMI reduction of 11.0 ยฑ 3.3 kg/mยฒ and was associated with significant improvements in psoriasis outcomes.

Systemic therapy use decreased from 53% to 34%, topical therapy from 44% to 39%, and 29% of patients required no treatment after surgery. Disease severity and quality of life improved markedly, with dermatology life quality index (DLQI) decreasing from 14.9 to 5.0, percentage of affected body surface area (%ABSA) from 5.7 to 1.7, psoriasis area severity index (PASI) from 3.6 to 1.2, and nail involvement from 43.8% to 21.9%.โ€ฆ
